Montessori Preschool Learning Activity
This activity is so simple you’ll only need 1 recycled item and one set of manipulatives.
That’s only two items that will work really well as a fun and easy learning game for kids.
What is this recycled item you are talking about?
How can you turn a recycled item into a recycled toy or a recycled learning toy?
It’s easy! 🙂
And I’m here to share some ideas, all we used to create this learning activity and what we used.
Stay tuned because you are in for a treat! 🙂
Note: Are you looking for more Montessori at Home activities? Here is a really fun one we made using popsicle sticks! 🙂

What are some Montessori Activities?
Maria montessori is the founder of the montessori method.
The montessori method is based on learning that is hands-on, visually independent learning and creative play.
For example, rather than working on worksheets to practice addition and subtraction, one way would be to use tools from nature such as rocks.
Displaying two rocks and then three rocks would allow children to learn through play.
Here are some learning activities that allow for open ended and hands-on learning:
Using beads to follow the lines of a set of shapes
Learning letters with recycled materials and matching them to a sheet
Water play
Symmetry using natural resources.
Cutting paper to practice fine motor skills
What other learning activities can you think of that allow for hands-on learning?
How did I put together this simple Montessori learning activity?
Simple!
All I used was one of my girls shoe boxes!
Every other item we already had.
The shoe box was the missing piece.
If you do not have a shoebox at the moment, a recycled cardboard box will also do.
I used a piece of a paper roll (a printer paper(s) will also work.
Place your piece of paper roll onto the top of the shoe box.
You can also place it on the sides if you’d like to cover the entire box but it is not necessary.
Then, I used tape to tape everything together.
Get creative with your recycled toy for learning..
I used a craft knife to create ten holes on the top of the shoe box (adult-use only).
Then, we used crayola markers to draw around it.
Add colorful drawn out numbers around the open slots.
Use a dry erase marker on each of the counting chips.
Note: Make sure to let them dry so they don’t easily rub off.
Voila! You’ve created your recycled toy that is to be used for learning for your preschooler!
How this easy preschool learning game works..
Lay out the numbered counting chips on the table.
Your LO will insert the correct matching number into the correct numbered slot.
Play based learning I tell ya! It is the very best!
What will make it even more fun and engaging is if your LO helps you in drawing around the shoe box.
It’ll be their own shoe box that they took part in and will enjoy learning that much more!
Want to try a different learning activity?
Why not learn colors?
Instead of writing out numbers and creating 10 slots, why not make only 6 for the colors of the rainbow.
Then, use counting chips that match those same colors!
What a fun way to learn about colors!
For an even more advanced approach, you can also turn this into an addition/subtraction activity by drawing a plus or minus sign in between to cut out slots.
Insert one amount and write it out (with a pencil so you are able to erase it) on top of one slot.
Then, on top of the other slot write out another number.
Add them or subtract them.
Then, open the box and see if you have the correct answer by counting the chips!
I hope you have fun learning with this easy peasy montessori method of learning.
