Can you dye brown eggs for Easter?
Absolutely!
These are the only types of eggs we receive so this is a question I had when Easter came around and I didnt have white eggs around.
And, the answer is, “Yes, you can dye brown eggs” and they turn out beautifully too!
We tried two different experiments this time around for Easter with our brown eggs.
The first one is with the original Easter egg kit.
The second attempt was with a fun STEM experiment for kids that was oodles of fun!
I’ll be sharing both of the ways we dyed our brown eggs below!

Hard boiled eggs
Easter egg Kit (Follow the instructions to make the food coloring/cream mixture. If you are getting the one that you dip to color that is fine too)
Thats. All. My. Friends.
Easy peasy!
Do brown eggs color well?
In my personal opinion, brown eggs create the most rich and gorgeous colors!
I will say the fair colors like yellow and light green do not work well.
Rich and vibrant colors like red and blue offer high pigmentation which will color your eggs beautifully!
Do you have your own food coloring?
Add your food dyes into the Easter egg kit cream mixture!
How do you dye brown eggs with food coloring?
Yes, ma’am!
I will share how we dyed our Easter eggs using an egg kit (Replace the kits food coloring with your own as sometimes they may be better quality).
Follow the instructions on your Easter Kit. You can also use whipped cream and food coloring which works wonders!
Then, add your cooled down hard boiled egg onto the mixture, swirling it around the food coloring.
Set it aside and let it sit for around an hour.
Wash off the colors and you have colored brown eggs!
For added fun add stickers to your eggs before rolling them around in the mixture.
This will allow for fun imprints when you wash off your dyed Easter egg and remove the stickers of them! 🙂

Hard boiled eggs
Baking Soda
Vinegar
Droppers
Tray
Water
Ohh! We absolutely loved this!
My oldest was having the best time with this simple and easy science experiment for kids!
Here are the steps we took to create this STEM station:
I set out 4 bowls of baking soda mixed with water and a bit of food coloring. (I eyeballed it. The water is to make it pasty and not too watery for easy egg dipping and also so the food coloring mixes in).
Then, set a bowl of vinegar on the side (Again, no measurements here. Just a bowl so you can dip your droppers in to pick up the vinegar with).
The fun part: Dip the hard boiled egg onto the baking soda/water/food coloring mixture.
Then, lay it on a paper towel.
Pick up some of the vinegar with the water droppers
Pour the vinegar onto the egg and watch as it fizzes!!
So. Much. Fun!!
This little STEM station was so much learning fun!
You can talk about the colors, count the eggs and enjoy a fun lesson on why vinegar and baking soda cause a reaction for a more advanced approach.
