What is the best gift for a 5 year old?
A toy that brings out their creative juices.
These are better known as open ended toys.
These types of toys are usually hands on, loose play, and spark their imagination!
This is the work of education of young children.
Toys that not only are for placing with but also for learning with.
5-year olds can enjoy a top toy that makes for a perfect gift this holiday season.
And, im here to help!
Not only will these toys work for big kids or younger kids but they’ll work for both at the exact same time.
They make for a fantastic birthday gift and are a perfect way to bring about so much joy for little kids.
The best thing is that lots of these are built for young minds to learn and explore with.

Children that are 5-6 will benefit greatly from open ended toys.

Those same open ended toys within those lists work well for kindergarteners too!
Because open ended toys grow with your child. They are not meant for one specific age range.
These toys spark imagination.
They spark creativity.
And so, what works well in the list for a preschooler will work just the same for a 5 year old.
What are good gifts for a 5 year old boy?
Keep in mind, these toys are not meant for “only” boys or girls.
These toys are meant for both boys “and” girls. They are gender neutral.
This is wonderful as it does not give the hint that it has to be only for a boy or that it has to be only for a girl.
Open ended toys will work well for both boys and girls simultaneously.

Connect 4, Candy Land, Jenga and Guess who have been childhood favorite games of mine. Guess what? I brought it forth so y 6 year old can play too. She loves it as much as making puzzles!
Art easels are wonderful for creating an art masterpiece. 5 and 6 year olds love to color and an easel is a great gift for them. Littles can draw little princess art or rainbow colors and enjoy working on their creative side.

These are great for siblings and friends of 5 and 6 year olds! They are great little tools and totally spark up your child’s imagination.
Pretend Play Outfits
My 6 year old loves to imagine little restaurant shop or pizza parlor games with her little sister. Pretend Play costumes work well for setting the shop or parlor mood just right. These are a big hit with littles and can be so much fun.
Legos are wonderful little gems. They are great for building up creative things and work well for motivating your child’s imagination to create something epic! A good idea is to drop them all on the table and build, build and build some more!
Wood blocks are amazing little pieces. These come multi colored and with cards so your child can create what is on the card. Really fun!
Watching a butterfly grow from egg to butterfly is incredibly fun for 5 and 6 year olds. We’ve tried it and loved setting them free in the end. This is a wonderful physical activity that involves feeding and tending to the small caterpillars and then releasing and setting the butterflies free.
Wavee boards are great open ended toys. They work well with these bendable roads, they are great for imaginative play and for some gross motor play! These large pieces are epic and the best part – you can take them anywhere. Bring them while on vacation, for a birthday party or leave them at home.
**What is gross motor play: Skills that require entire body movement.
Magnet tiles are great open ended toys. They work well for 5 and 6 year olds as they help them engineer something epic using them. They work just as well for preschoolers and are toys that work well as they grow. These last for a very long time and are the ultimate brain activity for kids.
5-6Remember these from your childhood? They are not only great for playing the actual uno game but the cards work well for learning about important match skills too! We love these!
Cubes are amazing little things, i tell ya! They work well for learning about counting, colors, they can be little people. These are very open ended and grow with your preschooler for eventually learning about ten frames, counting 1-100 and even addition/subtraction.
